MacFuse brings a feature to Mac OS X that is already found in other UNIX systems: the ability to generate a virtual file system on the fly in order to work with specific applications. Originally called Filesystem in Userspace (FUSE) in Unix, this tool allows non-privileged users to create a virtual file system within any application.
By using MacFuse in conjunction with other software, users can now perform tasks that were previously restricted in Mac OS X, such as writing on a NTFS-3G disk partition (the Windows file system). MacFuse is also compatible with various other operating systems like ftpfs for FTP read/write, wdfs for WebDAV, cryptofs, encfs, bindfs, and more. This expands the capabilities of Mac OS X and allows users to access and manipulate different file systems with ease.
